Anthem Cyber Attack and keeping yourself safe

This blog post is for those that have ever been or currently are Anthem members. Anthem was a victim of a cyber attack 2/4/2015 and Anthem members’ information has been compromised. The information that was stolen includes: names, birthdays, medical IDs, social security numbers, street addresses, email addresses and employment information.  Anthem is currently working with a federal intelligence team as well as a cyber security firm to find out how much information was compromised,  find the criminals, as well as strengthen their system’s security. To help keep your information safe, please go to www.anthemfacts.com and use their hotline at 1-877-263-7995. Anthem is providing their members with free credit monitoring (you can call the number above, or go to the website above) for a few months to help deter identity theft. Also, you may want to look into freezing your credit so you can make sure no one opens a credit account in your name.

The emails are telling the members to click on links to credit monitor their account. Those emails, as verified by Anthem, are not from Anthem. Anthem is now including free identity protection services for anthem members (post/present) for two years. Those services include: identity repair assistance, credit monitoring, child identity protection, identity theft insurance, identity theft monitoring/fraud detection, and phone alerts.
