The Surveys are in, and the happy news is that over the course of 2013 through 2014, Wellness programs have been big hitters with businesses of all shapes and sizes. Companies are investing in gym equipment for their workers, on-site health clinics, health talks, and wellness programs to ensure their employees are getting healthier and they are saving money on their health insurance. Today, on April 1st, all of our clients have received a Workplace Wellness bulletin to help them gather some more ideas on how they can keep their employees healthy by maintaining a steady exercise regime, portion control for food, healthier office food options, and much more. Here are some of Buettner Insurance’s favorite health tips in the document:
- Encourage and support participation in after-work recreation leagues. This one is especially great for larger employers; bowling teams, softball leagues, baseball, basketball, and even paint balling have been adapted and used by many employers to increase workplace teamwork and health.
- Offer employee-led campaign, demonstrations or programs. We like to help our clients, and having attended several employer sponsored wellness programs that either ourselves or the client put up, we can guarantee this is a great workplace wellness idea.
- Offer healthy foods at meetings, conferences and catered events. This is one of our favorites because it is so easy to do and very easy to implement. Maybe next lunch meeting have a fruit salad instead of the donuts. That choice wouldn’t only increase employee energy, but offer them a healthy choice in meetings, too.
- Set up programs to encourage physical activity, such as pedometer walking challenges. Everyone likes a good challenge, and we have seen very good success rates with these wellness programs!
Let us know what your favorites were – there is a lot to choose from!
The best part is, this isn’t an April Fools Joke (posted on April 1st!), it is a life change that can help employers and employees stay more productive, healthier, and happier.
